Liberty looked out on a fine September morn.
Pleased for a new day to welcome those foreign born.
She took joy in their longing for freedom’s warm cloak.
New York City, her home, from its slumber awoke.

In horror, her gaze turned to a terrible sight.
Liberty’s eyes filled with tears as day turned to night.
In a moment of time she couldn’t quite catch her breath.
From the sky evil men brought suffering and death.

In pain, Liberty did not quite know what to do.
She couldn’t believe her eyes, she had a stunning view
Of what evil men do who have so learned to hate.
She bowed her head in silent grief at New York’s fate.

Though each with his faith, we’re one nation under God.
Muslims, Christians, Jews—each this sad journey have trod.
Joined as one under Liberty’s freedom and laws
Against those who use God for their own evil cause.

Liberty still stands tall. Her torch brightens the sky.
The call for justice is now her rallying cry.
Inspired by her heroes, those who also stood tall.
She proudly proclaims liberty—justice for all.

She stands with the nation now united as one.
With the eye of the eagle guards daughter and son.
Her gaze is now strong having faced man at his worst.
Liberty’s tears form a pool, refreshing our thirst.

Liberty wept that day that the towers crashed down.
Trembling in horror and pain from sandals to crown.
Weeping, groaning in grief, not knowing what to feel.
Tears not of weakness, for this lady’s made of steel.

The steel of a strong nation whose heart has been torn.
The steel of a people as they suffer and mourn.
The steel of resolve not to let fear have its way.
The steel of a great country—a proud U.S.A.
